It's a Long Off Season

Posted on: January 15, 2008 10:47 pm

While I love college basketball, soccer and a few other sports, a world without college football is... well... boring. I just hope we have enough time to get our house in order. Gone will be our top receiver (who seemed rather heartless, so I'm not all that sad), our top linebacker (who WILL be missed, but might be covered with other talent, who knows), but we have so much returning I don't hink we should be in bad shape. I simply hope we find a heart!

Now, while a lot of folks are coming out against the coaches, I am not one of them. I fully support Stoops and company. I do want to be on the record asking for a plan to see that we don't experience these big stage let downs though. Our program has accomplished so much. I am thankful for that. I am left to wonder, however, why we do not seem to have the follow through in the some of these big games. It isn't only these games that are a problem. What happened in Colorado and our slow start at Iowa State are a little hard for me to understand as well. It all seems to go back to intensity and preparedness. That's on the coaches and the player's attitudes. How do we keep it up week in and week out? I can't answer that. But, I'd love to hear Stoops and Co. come up with some public plan to share with the country and the media to counteract the PR problem we now have. We have to get back to being a killer program in the big ones.

Well, now it's on to the big, bad GOLF season well, maybe a little March Madness first.

It's a Long Off Season

Speaking strictly from an outside perspective and from way across the country, I personally think that Oklahoma is a great program, lots of tradition, great coaching staff, very solid fan base and all the right facilities. It is hard to make a rash judgment based on two bad losses in the last two years. The Boise State game is easy to analyze it was simply a great football team and program including fans, completely underestimating a worthy opponent. I don't think that the Oklahoma football team, their coaching staff and the fans are really capable of understanding the power of the Underdog. Boise State had been hearing from everyone, you can't beat this guys, you haven't played anyone, you stink.

On the Oklahoma side, all they had been hearing is you guys are going to kill them, they shouldn't even be on the same field with you guys, they should be carrying your jockstraps and on and on. Them bottom line is no amount of coaching can prepare you for the fury from a bunch of dude's trying to prove that they can do it. Oklahoma quickly found themselves on the wrong end of a butt whooping came to their senses and started playing some smash-mouth football and when they did I don't think many people thought they were going to lose once they gained the lead. Truthfully the only reason they ended up losing was because of two or three darn good athletes, that had luck, fate and unbelievable amounts of heart and desire on their side.

As for the West Virginia bowl game, they just got outplayed it happens the fans need to get over it and get on with life, the team needs to learn from it and get on with life as well as the coaching staff.

As for Golf season, don't get me started, I live in Mesquite, NV and this place is full of obnoxious golfers 24/7 365. I hate golf because of these idiots.
